I would tell you something about myself, but it is more fun if you find out for yourself.
Years ago Rolling Stone described one of my cherished bands, The Afghan Whigs, as “thinly veiled sleaze”. I was absolutely offended I didn’t think of it first.

Err yeah. Someone is definitely going to take a shot at him at some point. I won’t shed a tear.

You need a full motion mount. You can move the TV away from the wall without unmounting it.

Always a pleasure to randomly stumble upon a quixotic reference.

Or, hear me out, anthrax.

lol I never thought a fretless bass sounded like a fart but our ears are subjective. Now I will have to sell mine because I will always think of this conversation when I play it. 😢

I’m guessing you’re not referencing the accordion which leads into the song. Are you talking about the bass? Because there were no horns in Paul’s band at the time.

Jack’s older brother? Oh yes. Lovely chap.

There is a scene with Ben Affleck and, I think, Owen Wilson having a conversation while Ben’s character is holding a dial indicator *in his hand* just randomly pressing against parts. I remember thinking, “were there any advisors on set?”

Ah, but what if this random piece of silicon that is old and EOL’d could be repurposed with a minimal OS and resurrected as a new appliance?

Not if you’re writing Linux software especially kernel/modules. I use autotools consistently.
February 9, 2025 at 5:01 AM
I never liked CMake. It never offered anything over autotools save for Windows compatibility. Bazel, meson, ninja, et al. There isn’t a build system I haven’t touched. I mostly use bitbake because I build Linux systems. I have to patch random software and/or their builds to deal with breakages.

A couple of examples: Chromium has a bloated mess of a build system that still depends on Python 2, A GPS library, whose name I forget, that attempted to be smart and turn on features based on availability of deps on the build machine (not the target) even when cross compiling.

Sorry I don’t understand the question. What names?
February 9, 2025 at 3:28 AM
Definitely. I have been using DuckDuckGo for a while. Maybe ten years? I make it my default search engine on all my devices. Highly recommended.

I’ve noticed this too. I’m safe in the embedded[ Linux] space but c++ applications and many of the newish open source libraries are massively bloated with terrible build systems lacking any concept of target architecture other than x86. Don’t get me started on the lost art of dependency mgmt.

Rebooting the entire machine to deal with a USB drive is how I know this is satire.

OG Mad Max is my favorite. Some of Road Warrior up to the part where Max loses the Pursuit Special. For me it was always about the Interceptor. “600 hp to the wheels, the last of the V8s”

It would be more accurate to say, “…despite a top marginal tax rate of 91% for the richest…”. America still had a massive manufacturing sector during the Golden Age of Capitalism.

A good starting point would also be educating Americans how a progressive tax system finctions.
