Based on my assumptions (mechanical/electrical trades, 30+year career), my opinion is: effective and valid skills transfer typically starts to realize in a meaningful, structured way around Year 3 to Year 5 of the skilled person's career, and enters its peak phase from approximately Year 10 onward.

There’s an old saying that being a pensioner is a very dangerous job — after all, no one has ever outlived it.

I came from a trade background with no formal management training. In 1980, when I first became a supervisor (23 years old), the must-do training for a new supervisor was the Basic Supervisory Skills course, covering communication, leadership, planning, organising, discipline and team management.

Late ’90s: 1–20 GB. Multimedia files became common.
