If "Nerdy" covers the humanities too, Jonn Elledge's "History of the World in 47 Borders" is great, or "Because Internet" by Gretchen McCullough on how the Internet has shaped language. "Watching the English" by Kate Fox is pop-anthropology, "Dead Famous" by Greg Jenner a history of celebrity.

Or "Miko Sala" as Jonathan Palmer kept calling him on commentary in 1995...

If you get chance, look out the 1967 movie "Grand Prix" with James Garner for a real contrast in eras. Safety? Never heard of her

Same here.

* Nissan Micra.
* Ford Focus
* Skoda Fabia
* Kia Picanto (as a second car because we were both working out of town at the time)

Not many people will remember/have heard of "The Singing Postman", who had a minor hit in the 60s with "Hev Yew Gotta Loight Boi?" sung in his lovely Norfolk accent.

He had a great line in "January Sales" that "We'll save on this and save on that till all our money's gone"

And linguistically they have the word "Estadounidense" while we don't have an equivalent "United Statesian", so between those factors the English use of "American" as a demonym looks like arrogantly claiming the entire lot.

The other thing that explained a lot for me was finding out that while we in the Anglosphere consider there to be two continents called "North America" and "South America" - plus a subcontinent called "Central America", Hispano/Lusophones see it as one single continent called "America".

And that's in STEM - the humanities are having it even worse, I gather. Nottingham's apparently shutting down Modern Languages entirely.
