If "Nerdy" covers the humanities too, Jonn Elledge's "History of the World in 47 Borders" is great, or "Because Internet" by Gretchen McCullough on how the Internet has shaped language. "Watching the English" by Kate Fox is pop-anthropology, "Dead Famous" by Greg Jenner a history of celebrity.

Or "Miko Sala" as Jonathan Palmer kept calling him on commentary in 1995...

And linguistically they have the word "Estadounidense" while we don't have an equivalent "United Statesian", so between those factors the English use of "American" as a demonym looks like arrogantly claiming the entire lot.

The other thing that explained a lot for me was finding out that while we in the Anglosphere consider there to be two continents called "North America" and "South America" - plus a subcontinent called "Central America", Hispano/Lusophones see it as one single continent called "America".
