The first time I was ever served an Americano was 25 years ago when I was in Tokyo and I took one sip and had to fight the urge to scream IS THIS WHAT YOU THINK OF US at everyone in the cafe

Whenever my wife and/or kids ask what I want for Christmas/Birthday/Father's Day I always say "We should watch all 20 hours of the Ken Burns documentary about jazz together" and this is the gift I have yet to receive 😢

For everything Thanksgiving after that, I still made the pie but had to cut a slice for her first and put it on the floor to make sure it didn't happen again.

She passed away a few years ago but I still make it every year and we all (even my mother) call it Maisy Pie.

Ten years ago, the first time I made a maple buttermilk pie for Thanksgiving, my 10-year-old cat Maisy who had never been interested in people food before, jumped up on the table in front of my mother and buried her face in the pie. My mother screamed.
