If all I did was focus on tweeting, I would actually have more reach, be less perpetually tired all the time, and probably could do more things that actually bring in income rather than all this work that is volunteer work, but what would be the point in that, lol

As for Taiwan, which probably does not hope to see itself perceived as alongside authoritarians, all this goes to show that human rights for many politicians is in fact simply rhetoric to advance narrow national interests, as a framing for Taiwanese soft power in constructing ties

Or because it is a popular domestic issue in Muslim majority in Indonesia. Not that Lin is necessarily aware of or cares about the substantial trading ties between Israel and China, even if he frames Palestine as an enemy through association with China

Given its larger economy and its strengths in drone tech and spyware. This is also why China and Indonesia, states that depict themselves as in support of Palestine, also do not care beyond making token gestures--which serves the purposes of eroding at US legitimacy for China

At the same time, even if Lin oddly didn't even seem to know how to wave the question away with a stock answer of "We value human rights in the Middle East," such viewpoints are not surprising. From the standpoint of any state, Israel will always be more valuable than Palestine

What the comments, which I found appalling, go to show is a profound tone-deafness, in which there does seem to be a genuine lack of understanding that Israel is an issue in which the world deviates substantially from the viewpoint of the Trump administration
