Now Watching: Evil Cat

The last of a family that has protected earth from a cat demon with nine lives must fight one last time when the monster is accidentally freed from its prison. This is so fucking weird. This can’t ever settle on the tone of the film.

Now Watching: History Of The Erotic Cinema

An interesting look at eroticism in the early days of cinema from arty foreign films swimming in nudity to stag clips from private collections. As long as there has been film there has been an exploration of sexuality.

Now Watching: Pretty In Pink

A girl is torn between the affection of a rich kid and the boy that has pined for her since childhood. I hadn’t seen this movie in ages and I’m not sure how well it has aged.

Now Watching: The Untold Story

The police are under pressure to solve the disappearance of a restaurant owner and his family and the number one suspect is its new proprietor. Disturbing and gnarly, this film one hundred percent earns its Category III rating, the Hong Kong equivalent of an X rating.

Now Watching: Babe Watch

A group of misfits compete to become the latest lifeguards on the California beach. A no budget cheapie in the vein of Vice Academy, which makes sense as it’s the same director. It’s not great but it is watchable in the same way that all these boob movies are.

Now Watching: Darbie’s Scream House

Darbie goes on s violent rampage when suspects her boyfriend Ben of cheating. Fast paced, funny and highly entertaining, this is an absolute delight. It lampoons the Barbie movie incredibly well.

Now Watching: The Innkeepers

Two bored employees attempt to document the haunted past of a small time inn in the final days of the hotel’s existence. Methodical and paranoid, not a lot happens but yet it’s still somehow engaging.

Now Watching: House On Haunted Hill

An eccentric wealthy man offers five people ten thousand dollars to spend the night with him and his wife in a supposedly haunted house. Light hearted frights bordering on camp, I really love all of the William Castle films and this is a particularly good one.

Bob and Kathy Burns save priceless horror and science fiction movie artifacts from being destroyed by uncaring studios. Just an absolute delight, I’m glad people like them had enough foresight to save these priceless treasures from the scrap heap.

Now Watching: Iron Lung

A convict is volunteered to navigate a blood ocean in a tiny submarine looking for an answer that might save humanity from extinction. While the look and especially the sound design are very good, there is no real narrative which makes the movie painfully long.

Now Watching: J.D.’s Revenge

A law student becomes possessed by a 40s gangster out for justice against those that murdered him on Bourban Street. One of my favorite Blaxploitation movies of all time, the story is really good and it has style to spare.

Now Watching: Send Help

An employee becomes stranded on a deserted island with her insufferable boss after surviving a plane crash. Patently absurd in the way that all the great Sam Raimi stuff is, this isn’t complicated but it is well executed and darkly humorous.

Now Watching: If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You

A woman on the brink of collapse tried the juggle her child’s illness, her absent husband, a missing client, an antagonistic relationship with her therapist and a hole in her roof.

Now Watching: Hide And Go Shriek

A group of teenagers hang out after hours in a furniture story unaware that a killer has holed up there as well. With a POV killer and its lurid undertones, this almost plays like an American giallo. The kills are fun and the pacing is solid.

An art restorer traveling to an isolated Italian village to repair a damaged fresco inside a remote church depicting a martyrdom discovers there is a dark secret hiding in the painting.

A trio of andriod warrior sisters are awakened from their thousands year sleep to save their world from annihilation. Hyper stylized and siper ambitious, this travels the stars as much as any big budget tentpole.

Now Watching: Super Master Vs The Evil Dead

An undertaker’s apprentice trains in Kung fu against reanimated corpses to take down the thieves who murdered his father. Super silly, the fighting is good even with the seemingly endless subplots.

Now Watching: Bay Of Blood

The murder of a wealthy contessa sets off a violent chain of events as the potential heirs start bumping each other off. With a complex web of deceit, this has twists and turns to spare. The body count is high and the kills are brutal.

Now Watching: No Other Choice

A laid off executive hatches a desperate plan to get a new job worthy of his status no matter what the cost. Darkly funny and squirm inducing, this is a remorselessly brutal take down of capitalism. We don’t deserve Park Chan-Wook as a director.

Now Watching: KPop Demon Hunters

Monster slayers hiding under the guise of KPop superstars must stop a new boy band comprised of demons from taking over the world. Holy shit is this a lot of fun. The story is action packed and heartwarming. The songs absolutely fucking rip.

Now Watching: Blood Tracks

A band looking to film a music video decides to shoot at an abandoned factory that a family of psychopaths have been using as a hideout for decades. This should have a lot going for it. Shot in the 80s. Fairly unique location. Lots of people for victims.
