He was voted in by a majority of the electorate who wanted exactly what he promised, his approval rating has held above 40% through everything. I just don't get how denying the scope of the problem is supposed to help fix it.

Pascal's wager is so self defeating. I'm not aware of any Christian sect that considers hedging your bets to be the sincere form of faith required for salvation.
