so the pope directly criticized the Trump administration’s policies on immigration, then met with the vice president and told him (a catholic) to his face that he is wrong, and then immediately died? kind of badass tbh. RIP

Love to see folks out in community cleaning up trash. Let’s remember the ‘war against litter’ cannot be won by only targeting people throwing items on the ground; litter mostly originates from structural and systemic gaps that must be remedied through policy reforms and proactive bylaw enforcement.

Looks like the most trades in the past 30 days are associated with this particular politician

Within the past 30 days, as the stock market was deliberately tanked by American politicians, nearly $4 million worth of stock was traded by 15 American politicians 🧐 www.capitoltrades.com/trades

Something I think about a lot is the decisions made back in the 1970s to start building like this, which began a trend leading to current aesthetic expectations of architecture including big glass windows. Did they not realize how expensive heating and cooling would be? Did they not find dead birds?
March 16, 2025 at 12:49 AM
This building is apparently another hot mess
March 15, 2025 at 10:23 PM
Thanks for adding this context. I just visited 200 Kent this morning with a Safe Wings volunteer. Around a quarter of the building has has been treated, with lots of glass remaining untreated… as I understand it, a complaint was filed with ECCC under SARA and the MBRs, but next steps remain unclear.

There are many government-owned buildings in Ottawa that create illegal death traps for birds. Some have mitigation installed that’s below the bare minimum specs outlined by Canada’s national standard. Here’s the Bank of Canada building with tape peeling off— tons of birds are killed here each year.
March 15, 2025 at 9:24 PM
In Canada it is illegal for building owners to kill birds. North America has lost nearly 1/3 of its bird populations while 🇨🇦 is supposed to be protecting birds under an international treaty

I laid out birds killed by collisions with buildings at the doorstep of parliament to ask: what are we doing?
March 15, 2025 at 9:12 PM
It was a privilege to join volunteers here in Ottawa for the Safe Wings bird display at the museum of nature. While Canada’s leaders focus on protecting national economic interests, they must also protect our environment, which is declining at an unsustainable rate. We (the public) must expect more.

Today, while politicians and media gathered around our new Prime Minister, I staged a demonstration just outside Canada’s parliament. These migratory birds and Species at Risk are protected by federal laws and were killed by colliding with buildings. I brought them from Toronto, London and Guelph.

this vibe is like watching a shitty B movie for the first time and it being too easy to anticipate everything the one-dimensional characters say and do because it’s all one big trope that never needed to be made. we’ve seen this all before, even if the production this time is expensive. BORING

Every time I pass products on the shelf advertised as “flushable wipes” I can’t help but think of past successful lawsuits and wonder why misleading labels like this still exist…

Consumers beware: some goods labelled as “Made in Canada” may not really be made in Canada (or at least enough so for labels to comply with guidelines). It can be tricky to verify the “Canadianness” of companies and their products, but seems likely this could change

Today I became the first in my family to earn a PhD. I crossed the finish line feeling grateful for love I felt from my community, people who kept me going and believed in me showed up to cheer me on. It has been a great honour to do this work. I gave it my all. Cheers with the Goblet of Knowledge 🥰

Yeah... this recent post is a decent example. I don't understand how the mayor can claim that this platform is conducive to meaningful engagement while the city literally turn off the ability for the public to share feedback, to avoid the sorts of comments that still show up in the quotes anyway.

🫡 the environmental stewardship and action community advisory committee also officially recommended that the city take a look at this. excerpt from the report going to Council from CPSC on Tuesday March 4:

As an example, while he was Premier, Doug Ford sold the Chicago branch of his Canadian family business Deco Labels to Americans (lol). Deco prints a huge volume of labels for Canadian grocery chains. I wonder if the Chicago branch is gearing up for Made in Canada label printing decolabels.com
