The unnecessary…yet totally necessary, purchase of the weekend. #GalaxyQuest

If this includes a wax figure of Theodore Roosevelt who comes to life and a pet monkey, this year might not be a bust after all.

adjective: boffo
1.
(of a theatrical production or movie, or a review of one) very successful or wholeheartedly commendatory.
"a boffo box-office certainty"

Good mojo for the book I’ll finally (hopefully) finish this year

"Ghost Eaters" by Clay Meleod Chapman

(This came out in '22 but I read it this year, so I'm counting it.)

If a drug promised the ability to see your lost loved ones again, would you take it? That's the central premise of "Ghost Eaters," which is an eerie look at addiction and grief.

"Only If You're Lucky" by Stacy Willingham

Another near-perfect mystery from Willingham. With murder, deception and friendship, this book has all the ingredients for an addictive page-turner.

"Listen For the Lie" by Amy Tintera

Fans of true crime and podcasts should enjoy this one. Years after her best friend was murdered, Lucy returns to her small town as the prime suspect and no memory of the night her friend died. A podcaster tries to solve the mystery.

I couldn't put this down.

"All We Were Promised" by Ashton Lattimore"

One of the best historical fiction books I've read in years. Set in Philadelphia in 1837, "All We Were Promised" explores the lives of three young Black women and the supposed promise and ideals of America.

"It Lasts Forever and Then It's Over" by Anne De Marcken

A post-apocalyptic tale that reminds us what it means to be human, ironically narrated by a woman from the living dead. "It Lasts Forever..." is ferociously funny and melancholy all at the same time.

📚I don't foresee myself finishing another book in the next few days with my schedule, so here's my best of 2024 for #Booksky:

(1/6)
"One Perfect Couple" by Ruth Ware

I was up until 3 a.m. finishing this one. Mystery, a fight for survival and a tropical storm kept me hooked.

The Kan-Kan always does fun screenings around the holidays, and yesterday I got to see “The Apartment” —one of my favorites— on the big screen.

You don’t get much better than Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine.
