Renal outcomes after liver transplantation are critical.
W/in 24 mos, 20.99% of patients developed CKD, w/ a significant decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate. Pre-transplant serum creatinine ≥ 1.5 mg/dL was associated w/ worse renal prognosis. doi.org/10.53855/bjt...

Brazil increased the absolute number of transplants in 2024, but donation effectiveness remained at 27%, which is below the target. Family refusal (46%) remains the primary barrier, limiting growth in transplants per million population.

⚖️Does legal emancipation equal true autonomy for adolescent living organ donors? Evidence suggests it does not. Ongoing neuropsychological development increases vulnerability to coercion and limits decisional autonomy in living donation. doi.org/10.53855/bjt...

🫁 Severe hypoxemia matters in liver transplantation
Patients with hepatopulmonary syndrome & PaO₂ < 45 mmHg are prioritized on the waiting list but show lower post-transplant survival, highlighting hypoxemia severity as a key prognostic factor beyond MELD/PELD.

❓Can gut microbiota modulation aid Parkinson’s disease management? Clinical studies have shown that FMT improves motor symptoms, enhances intestinal motility, and modulates dysbiosis, indicating its therapeutic potential via the gut–brain axis. doi.org/10.53855/bjt...

Nearly half of patients w/ Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency were diagnosed only after transplantation, based on explant analysis—strong evidence of underdiagnosis in BR. Despite this, outcomes & survival rates were comparable to other etiologies. 🔗https://doi.org/10.53855/bjt.v28i1.677_ENG

#BJT Letter to the Editor counters Neumann’s provocative text: immune memory favors diversifying selection, not just “fittest” clones. Eomes–Bcl-2 supports low-affinity T cells, broadening protection.

A study w/ ICU nurses found that while 65.9% feel prepared to care for potential organ donors, most lack recent training or direct experience. Gaps in hemodynamic, glycemic, & infection control highlight the need for continuous education & standardized protocols.

Do digestive issues threaten lung transplantation?
Study shows that esophageal dysmotility is an independent risk factor for acute rejection of the transplanted lung. Gastroparesis is also linked to Chronic Lung Allograft Dysfunction.
Digestive evaluation is crucial post-LT.
