2/ If you itemize the bill requires the taxpayer to reduce their contribution by .5% of the taxpayer’s contribution base (which is, generally, adjusted gross income, AGI) on the charitable deductions of individuals.

1/ With the new law, taxpayers who claim the standard deduction will be able to claim a charitable deduction for cash contributions. The amount is $1,000 for single and $2,000 for married couples.

Charitable Contributions Deduction was changed in the Big Beautiful Bill for 2026 and is permanent.

State and Local tax (SALT) deduction (2025)

State and Local Tax Deduction (SALT) is a big change. If you are able to itemize on the Schedule A, then starting in 2025 the threshold is raised to $40,000, currently it is at $10,000. Let me know if you have any questions and please share.

Prior to Trump's tax bill you were allowed to claim losses up to 100% of your winnings. Starting 2026 you will only be able to take 90% of the losses to the extent of the gain.
