I study Iaido and post about games, localization, and life in Japan.
I worked in the tourism information booth at Hakone Yumoto over a decade ago and loved telling people about this line. It’s lined with hydrangeas in June, should you find yourself back there.

Nothing like adjusting the cookie preferences, pressing the tiny x on the top ad, closing the full screen splash ad, and scrolling a paragraph to find out you’ve already hit your free article limit on this site you’ve visited for the first time.

I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you’re able to pinpoint and address the causes.

The job hunt wasn’t a flop so to speak, but it sucks losing PTO for nothing, essentially. Of the 4 job offers, 2 really low-balled the salary (below my current) and the other 2 were great but disappeared through restructuring or dissolving. At least they were kind enough to hold on hiring me prior.

I have found Google maps to be massively unreliable in the last several months. I’ve also found that it changes my usual route or gives me arbitrary routes for no reason.

With practice, you’ll also find yourself needing to think less between really common phrases or structures as you develop a bit of verbal muscle memory.

At least, that was my takeaway from my experience.

Compared to 15 years ago, our smartphones generally have larger storage and better recording quality.
Throw on some headphones, read along out loud with the conversations and record your speech.
You’ll be surprised where your pitch doesn’t match, and notice when you give participles too much oomph.
