I question whether Garfield was as notable a figure as Death by Lightning claims, but when played by Michael Shannon, you have to conclude he was.

I used to have the pretensions of a cinephile.

Weirdly, I’m mostly relieved that this deputy FBI director made a public statement to stick to the facts.

It’s not just Commander. I’ve been playing a lot of Standard, and it seems that if you aren’t in a winning position by turn 3, you’re probably losing.

I genuinely hate how fast this game’s gotten.

Sumner believed that the Constitution was the tool by which to achieve human rights, rather than the framework which bounded and limited that struggle.

Some circles likely view that as blasphemy. I find it inspiring.

I (Christian) have pondered the admonition to “love your enemies [and] bless them that curse you.”

I’ve wondered how I’m supposed to feel towards people who curse my friends and neighbors (e.g. LGBT folks and immigrants).

Maybe this is a space for righteous anger? Feels just.

Or, for a different denomination, the Cathedral of the Madeline is just down the street - and really close to a pretty decent Thai place.

The Tabernacle Choir appears to have a (free to the public) rehearsal tomorrow night. Might be a reasonable substitute. www.thetabernaclechoir.org/choir-rehear...

The temple itself has been under construction of late, so it may not make the best visiting spot at the moment.

If it is open, there tend to be a lot of Christmas light sightseers this time of year, making it REALLY crowded.

I mean, Jack learns from the harm he causes and helps bail out the people he harmed, so the metaphor certainly falls short somewhere.

The Infinity Saga sacrificed its best moments of emotion (e.g. the Guardians’ found family, Iron Man’s sacrificing his suits) in the name of pushing forward the Thanos plot.

Which creates a “road not taken” vibe: what if Thanos hadn’t been the mandated next story beat for these characters?

Lots of superhero media wants to showcase fights between good guys and bad guys (or between two sets of good guys). So while TBolts was, overall, probably mid, I can’t help but love the extended sequence of the characters actually saving people. Made me cry.

Which, granted, isn’t hard. But still.

Zimone is one of the best new characters in Magic. Always looks great in card art.
