Because so many deals are secretive and the values undisclosed, that's likely a massive undercount.

On average, this lost revenue could have paid for 6,641 more instructors each year, or a mix of hiring and teacher raises to reduce quit rates.
In a state plagued by teacher shortages, this missing money could have made a big difference.

A new Good Jobs First analysis reveals South Carolina’s public schools lost almost $3.2 billion to corporate tax abatements between 2017 and 2023.

Losses per student rose from $448 in 2017 to $727 in 2023.
