That said, I would throw a fit and fall in it if a publisher showed me an AI cover. My agent would be involved.

If they're being published by big 5 presses, they lilely do not have any say unless they're bestselling authors. The best input I've ever been offered (and I'm lucky) is which of these variations on a cover appeals to you most? *Total* cover input on books is exceedingly rare even in small press.
