I don't remember - ever - any opposition leader making such a vicious, spiteful personal attack on a Chancellor in response to a Budget. They invariably keep words fairly neutral, & aim at the policies, not the person.

Last act of a desperate, failing politician, out of her depth & out of a job.

The Greens had zero impact on today's Budget announcements.
They just leapt on the coat-tails of everything Labour had already signalled they would do, using them as a vehicle to push their own uncosted, pie in the sky ideas.

Populists.

The OBR noted, to its apparent surprise, in today's analysis of the Budget that the VAT on Public Schools had "raised a lot more than they had forecast"...

Because almost nobody pulled their kids out of school (as *we all forecast*)

...government, making the wealthly pay a fairer share to fund out services and national infrastructure.

Enough of the silly games now.

Get behind this Labour government if you actually care about our future.

She said there will only be one OBR forecast a year in future, in the Autumn.
That will reduce ammunition for the media commentators to fire at her, of course, but it will also reduce the number of totally incorrect forecasts they produce by a factor of 2 (eg wrong on growth for this year by 50%)

And will lead to reductions in deficit and debt over time - resulting in a surplus in the years at the end of the forecast.

1 in 10 pounds government spends is on paying off interest on the debt inherited from the Tories.

Keeping the same fiscal rules aim to reduce the debt - met in the budget last year, the spring statement and again in the Budget today.

Chancellor made a point of saying the extra funding for Scotland was given because the Labour leader in Scotland asked for it.

Why didn't the SNP ask for it?

Various redevelopments and industrial developments given funding for in Scotland.

£13bn of flexible funding being devolved to 7 mayors.

Specifical funding announced for Cornwall, including critical minerals.

Specific announcements for Peterborough, Darlington and others.

Extra for the devolved nations too.

OBR expects productivity to grow less than hoped in the coming years.

The Chancellor says this is due the legacy of the Tories.

But she says the Labour government beat the forecasts on this this year, and they will beat them again in future years and see higher growth than forecast.

I flicked onto BBCNews just after Badenich had finished her hysterical personal abuse of Rachel Reeves, & saw him sitting there looking like he'd been dragged through a hedge backwards...

It must be hard to keep lying to people even though all your ammunition has been dumped in 10 feet of seawater.
