This deal is like the Treaty of Versailles reparations imposed on Germany post 1919 which were subsequently deemed too harsh! Outrageous to demand similar terms from the victims of Putin’s aggression.

Exactly. My point is that this is likely to be a performative more bark than bite policy in practice.I doubt very much that there’ll be resources to quibble over the value (sentimental or cash)far less have someone stuffing envelopes to send to Cash4Gold!

Not sure they will walk back BUT the practicalities will likely make the reality different as in Denmark. Their law states jewellery >€1500 - are we going to employ a valuation jeweller to police that? And not for items with sentimental value- who can judge that except the owner?
