#Ontario education funding has not kept pace with inflation or the cost of service delivery which will result in program cutbacks at more and more school boards.

Happening tomorrow morning (Monday Oct 20th) across East End schools!
A Walk-in for Education - educators and families are meeting outside school ~30min before bell time with signs and then “walking in” (around the school, across the yard, around the block) before school starts.

In addition to removing elected representatives & public decisions the Minister of Education has ordered supervised school boards to stop publicly broadcasting meetings including @tdsb.on.ca Special Education committee, cutting parents off from information to advocate for their children.

Classroom reorganization is a process across Ontario schools that we need to stop normalizing. This highly disruptive practice is due to #Ontario underfunding K-12 education.
Most reorgs occur because the system lacks the funds to allow stability for individual schools and children.

#Education is too important to be left solely to provincial bureaucrats.

The health of a democratic nation can be measured by how it runs public schools:
- model civic engagement and shared responsibility? or
- obedience and central control?

Local voice in public education is critical to student success and by extension the economic success of Ontario

Yes DoFo, people are done with repeated #Ontario #Conservative government scandals.

*note - the Ford government did NOT take over the Catholic school board that went on a first class trip to Italy to buy religious art, notably the only Board with a conservative voter base… #morescandal

My daughter came with the saddest face to tell me that the Tiny Chef Show has been cancelled by Nickelodeon, even though they just won’t an Emmy.

In 2024/25 the number of #Ontario school boards in deficit rose to 42 of 72, up from 31.
This is entirely the fault of @ongov.bsky.social.
In 2019 the Ford government cut over $1B from K-12 education. School boards weathered cuts using reserves, which were wiped out by pandemic.

The @ongov and Min of #Education won’t listen to school boards but how long can they ignore the myriad of organization & media reports on impacts of chronic underfunding?

Thank-you for work highlighting crises in #Ontario education and the very real struggles faced by students, families, and staff.

Let’s be frank, the @ongov position that #Ontario school boards “overspend” on #education is offensive.

The provincial government refuses to fund annual CPP & EI increases or fully fund education worker wages at Boards whose wage grids pre-date central collective bargaining.

Let’s be frank, the @ongov position that #Ontario school boards “overspend” on education is offensive.

71 of 72 school boards spend >$850 million more on special #education than provided by the province.
Other underfunded supports include safety, mental health, technology.

The #Ontario Minister of education has been blaming Ontario school boards for “overspending” when in reality education funding has been declining against inflation since 2019.
42 of 72 school boards are facing deficits, up from 31 last year.
