I'm sure some automotive engineers could answer but I know I attempted to lock my truck door manually once (while it was open and engine was running) and the doors locked/unlocked in the same second. So it prevented me from committing an oops.

Not so much unpopular as it is impractical.

Treating C++ as C with classes is how we ended up with Rust being what it is now. It's not easy keeping up with C++ releases, but the standards committee does good work.

I don't think there's any language excluded from a potential starter. If there was, we wouldn't have even made to it what we now know as assembly.

Java, C++, C# are all object-oriented languages, but which one you should use depends more on what you want to do than how you want to do it.
