Is this the perfect job for you? Which school division will be next?
Another school division is taking concrete climate action steps. ECA is beyond thrilled to see WSD post this position. Which division will be next?

"Elbows up" does not mean "To hell with the environment", it requires a long-term strategy that includes environmental protection and sustainability. Many politicians are using it as an excuse to put short-term profits before people.

‘Elbows up’ in Canada means sustainable resource development
Accelerated resource development in Canada should not burden future generations with environmental destruction.

Being part of this board is so life-giving. When I feel down about climate change, these people give me hope for the future and get straight to work on climate action. If you have a gift for organizing or just want to make the next step towards greater involvement with ECA - we're looking for you!

Grade 4 students at École Provencher were exploring rocks & minerals to generate questions as they begin their new science unit. They particularly enjoyed writing with the mineral graphite. As one student said, "Rocks are so mysterious! "

For the next couple of weeks École Varennes' little library's bottom shelf will be reserved as a location to seed swap. Students from Club Vert-ennes collected seeds from our garden last fall & saved them to share with the community. Take some or leave some - but come check it out!

The prompt for today's visit to Parc Lagimodière-Gaboury was to create some landart but Mother Nature sent us a surprise!. Many groups explored rolling snow & stacking (who can resist a snowman right?) others experiments with sticks and leaves. Such creativity as we returned to this special place.

Thank you Indigo St.Vital for supporting the growth of classroom libraries through the LOR grant @varenneslrsd.bsky.social Each class picked 10 high interest books in French & English to add to their classroom libraries. Teachers took part in a PD today for a crash course in weeding and curating.

Each month classes at @provencherlrsd.bsky.social get a book to keep in their classrooms. This month's books center Muslim girls' voices during Ramadan & Eid. These books stay in the classroom and help built classroom libraries that are reflective of our school's diverse community.

Yesterday students from @provencherlrsd.bsky.social tried to build the tallest snow structure. The tallest one was 5'7" and it warmed my teacher heart to hear the cooperation, problem-solving and design process conversations taking place. What a magical moment!

Today was the most magical day to visit our trees with the grade 1s from @provencherlrsd.bsky.social We sang a song and then decorated it with snow. The students worked together and took turns adding snow to the trunk. What a beautiful result!

HéHo! Today École Varennes welcomed Lavallée School students to celebrate Festival with us. The invitation at the library was to explore the items & accompanying books to learn more about clothing worn by voyageurs and local Indigenous peoples. Bon festival!

HéHo! For the library station during Festival at École Provencher we shared a story about what the ceinture flechée means & how it was used. We watched clip featuring Miguel from Étchiboy. Finally, students designed their own patterns using the colours they saw in the book & video. Bon festival!

Launched some new centers about light today with the grade 4s at École Provencher.
Students explored shadows, convex & concave lenses, produced a rainbow, classified objects by how much light passes through them, & looked in books for sources of natural & artificial light.

Love that little frosty hair that escaped my helmet! If you're dressed for it (and have a dedicated bike path that has a good snow pack & where you don't need to dodge cars) winter cycling can be fun!

Introducing grade 1s to the app PetBingo. It's one of my favourites to feature since it is ad free, free to download, gamifies math operations, offers a variety of difficulty levels & offers extra help for students who need to visualize the equation. What are your favourite educational apps?

Smoothies you make by riding a bike? I don't think it gets any better than that! Ss from Club Vert-ennes learnt about the importance of sustainable transportation from @greenactioncentre yesterday. I was so impressed by their questions & observations about active transportation barriers & benefits.

If you go walking at Lagimodière-Gaboury park you might notice some new deer tracks. Ss learned to recognize the prints left by animals who winter here in MB. They completed a scavenger hunt (and saw rabbit, squirrel, deer, dog, cat & human prints!) And used carved potatoes to leave deer prints.
