My heart was jubilant while reading this story this morning - more than 100 Chinook salmon have passed the former Klamath River dam sites as well as the fish ladder at Klamath Lake and are naturally spawning in Oregon headwaters for the first time in over a century! 🐟🧪🌎

Salmon clear last Klamath dams, reaching Williamson and Sprague rivers
Just a year after four dams were removed, a group of fall Chinook have migrated nearly 300 miles into the Upper Klamath Basin.

Hey is it good that FEMA is suspending employees that warned publicly that the agency isn't ready to manage disasters with the peak of hurricane season two weeks away
'A lot of folks are terrified': FEMA joins EPA in retaliation against dissenting staff
The result of all that is an obvious chilling of the federal workforce's speech.

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

I wrote about how Trump is dismantling the country's disaster forecasting infrastructure. But this isn't going to stop disasters from piling up -- quite the contrary.
Flash Floods and Climate Policy
As the death toll climbs in Texas, the Trump Administration is actively undermining the nation’s ability to predict—and to deal with—climate-related disasters.

I love experimenting with AI. And together with GEO grads and faculty, we've learned so much together in our AI Literacy Workshop.

But then there's this. So many AI written or completed assignments. And so much wasted time filing reports with the office of academic integrity

Ended the last week of my Animals and Society course exploring the possibility of AI consciousness (someday). Will we need to extend some of the same moral considerations we give to animals to AI systems as well?

Today's NYT on on this topic. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/24/t...
If A.I. Systems Become Conscious, Should They Have Rights?
As artificial intelligence systems become smarter, one A.I. company is trying to figure out what to do if they become conscious.
