Unfortunately, the 2018 to 2023 (M2) Mac mini has their internal storage soldered to the mainboard.
So unless if you have experience in micro-soldering, you're going to have to rely on external storage.
If you don't intend on traveling with your mac mini, consider a thunderbolt drive, it's fastest.

If you use an M4 Mac Mini or Mac Studio, you could try taking the risk of replacing the internal storage, it'll be a better solution than an external drive especially in read and write speeds. But if you use a MacBook or a portable PC that can't easily have its internal storage changed, def get it!

If you're wondering about the clearance for the MagSafe charger and the other USB C port, there's enough clearance space for both, but you'll have to use a cable for the USB C port.
And here's the benchmark results, it's a bit faster than an average USB 2.0 drive in write speed.

Here's a little trivia about Windows 11 Version 21H2, it never got the Copilot backport like Windows 10 and Windows 11 Version 22H2 (aka 2022 Update) did. 🙃

Yeah, I first installed it because it was neat and cool at first. But eventually I've just stopped caring looking at the dislike count and just look at the comments, more informative than a counter. IMO it's not too worth paying for the extension as it's niche and has subset amount of users.
