The Accessibility Wizard from @steampowered.com is a serious step forward, even if there's still room for refinement. What stands out most is how genuinely satisfying it feels to progress through the checklist. Hoping motivates devs to include more game accessibility features.

Was on a video call when my screen froze for a bit. For some reason it left a gaping hole in my face creepy enough for folks to take a screenshot. Maybe this is all a simulation after all?

Pretty stoked about this #SXSW panel on how 50+ year old gamers are a massive and underserved opportunity for the game industry.

I'll be at SXSW from 3/9 through 3/12 and at GDC from 3/18 through 3/22. Drop me a message if you'd like to meet up to talk age-friendly game design or anything else. :-)

I’ve been loving my quiet feeds on Bsky. They boost the voices of people you follow or are following you who post less frequently.

Oh, and my favorite concerts this year were:
1. Have Heart/Gel (Boston)
2. Brutus (San Francisco)
3. The Hives (Boston)

Finally, Dune: Spice Wars is an excellent digital board game that reminds me a lot of our lord and savior, Twilight Imperium. Sure, it does not reach the lofty heights of a TI4 6+ player epic, but it is scratches a lot of its itches in around 2 hours. It deserves more players, so check it out!

I did not think this was going to be for me, but it is excellent on the Steam Deck. I didn't care much for the Sea People storyline with all its fetch quests but I hadn't this much fun fishing since Ridiculous Fishing and that is not an easy achievement for a game.

I only started playing Midnight Suns for this winter break and it is exactly what I needed. It is so nice to get away from MCU these days and see these characters a little closer to their comic counterparts, and the Slay the Spire/XCOM gameplay doesn't hurt either.

This is probably a testament to how little time you actually have as an academic. I admit not having able to RDR2 until 2024, despite the original being one of my favorite games of all time! Mea culpa, but I enjoyed this one a ton this past year.

Moving on to the games I enjoyed playing the most in 2024 despite them being OLD (apparently). The Mortuary Assistant is a blast! Clean up the 3 corpses while figuring out which one is possessed and trying to kill you. Two thumbs up!

Let's turn Sweden into a nation under a Christian king in this awesome game that feels as if it was created back when its history happened. So excited to play more games by Matilda.

Balatro and UFO 50 have been discussed to death in end-of-year lists and I am on that bandwagon for sure. Both games will live long lives in my classroom discussions.

Arcs is deserving of all its hype. It is very divisive but I love it and I haven't even gotten to the campaign yet. Probably the saltiest game I ever played, though.

Satisfactory has been an excellent relaxing factory game for Chloe and I. She just started her second run but I am definitely returning to it again as well.

Love how Alan Wake II is packed with incredible details that bring the world to live. Just noticed the janitor has a unique idle animation when you're in the room—he occasionally glances at you, adding a subtle tension, but he never does it when you're out of sight.

I love how little ads I get on Bsky, so sorry to you all for me doing this post but I'm 6'8"/2m03 and I only just now discovered americantall.com: For the first time in my life I can just buy a sweater and it actually fits me properly.

Give me a single screenshot from a video game that immediately makes you hear the soundtrack in your head.

(I thank the loh-oh-hawd each day, for the apocalypse.)

The little things that make me happy: The custom set of Blackadder-themed cards that I made for @wehrlegig.bsky.social's excellent Pax Pamir: 2nd Edition arrived. Now my favorite historical boardgame blends nicely my favorite historical comedy.

I haven't played NBA 2K since 2012 as I felt that the game became too much about monetization, gambling and basketball lifestyle rather than actual basketball, but I do think that this has potential. TNT Sports is going to put the same overlays you see in the video game on the game and players.

Maybe I am missing something but it looks like there's currently still more game devs than gamers here? Or maybe most folks still have to figure out how feeds work?

As I finally close to door on Twitter, this ended up being my most popular post. I still like it, and I don't think it is any less relevant today as it was 8 years ago.

(Note that the latter list doesn't necessarily negate the former. We can have both worlds.)

Chloe and I finished our first #satisfactory run. Such a fun game for couples. It doesn't go nearly as crazy as #factorio nor does it contain tower defense mechanics but it's so satisfying to build stuff in 3D and calculate your throughput together. Looking forward to doing it again... with mods.
