The GOP was forced to spend millions of dollars to squeak out a slim, single-digit margin in yet another humiliating near-loss for Republicans in a deep-red district, a blaring warning sign ahead of the midterm elections. After Republicans spent well over $3 million and deployed Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson for multiple rallies and virtual events, Behn still nearly won this race. "I've always felt that "Firehouse Primaries" are like having an election where most folks don't know when or where the election is being held. That could not be more true with the Firehouse Primary for SD 15 (Hashmi's seat) which we just learned will be this Sunday, Dec 7th--times and locations still to be determined. Not sure whether it is the State Party rules or the State party officials who are jerking us around, but it sure is shameful and unfair to the candidates, the local committee officers and to the voters. Mark Warner has anounced that he will seek reelection as Virgina's senior U.S. Senator in 2026. This would be Warner's fourth term of office since he was first elected in 2008. When he was first elected, Warner promised the people of Virginia that he would serve no more than two terms in the U.S. Senate. So much for that. I was a member of the Virginia State Senate when Warner served as Virginia's Governor from 2002-2006. I was serving as Virginia's Lieutenant Governor when Warner was elected to the Senate. I frequently disagreed with Warner on policy matters, but but he was someone you could work with. Someone you could respect. I don't know what has happened to Mark Warner in recent years, or for that matter, to Tim Kaine, Virginia's junior U.S. Senator. They both have become nothing but political shills for the farthest left wing of the Democratic Party. It has been sad to watch. Neither have lived up to their potential. Has Mark Warner earned another term as our U.S. Senator? No, but he will win, likely in a landslide in a state that is becoming more blue; especially in an election year when the unpopularity of the incumbent Republican President will be front and center. And unfortuantely, the Republican Party has no one who can effectively compete against Warner, not even under the best of circumstances. The only Republican in Virginia today who could give Warner or Kaine a battle would be Governor Glenn Youngkin, but Youngkin is smart, and he is not a risk taker, so he will not join the battle in a year where the headwinds will be strongly against Republicans. So Warner will be reelected in 2026, and the beat will go on. I have no doubt that he will continue to be a shill for the most extreme voices in the Democratic Party, because it seems that's what you have to be these days to have success in either of our major political parties."
