Mackenzie Scott's blog post on her $7.2 billion in annual giving is worth reading in full.

Her observations are even more stark when you consider her ex, who doesn't seem to have the same appetite to give or even fund the newsroom he owns: yieldgiving.com/essays/we-ar...

Chat, when things are going badly and the people in charge of the government are explaining why it’s not their fault, how do Americans typically take it?

JUDGE: Again, this is an emergency hearing with limited briefing. No new information has been provided about issues in Portland, so for all of the reasons stated in my prior opinion, I GRANT plaintiffs second motion for a TRO. 16/

The last few times I visited LA I carried my passport with me due to concerns with ICE. Some thought this was crazy. Today Justice Kavanaugh has confirmed that yes, I need to carry my proof of citizenship with me everywhere I go, or else I will be legally arrested for no other reason than existing.

Exactly!

OpenAI created an AI-based therapist that validates delusional thinking, encourages suicidal ideation & helps plan self-harm behavior. OpenAI sells this product to vulnerable people w/mood disorders. Ergo OpenAI is responsible for all injuries resulting from use of this product.
We need to stop using a framework of 'ChatGPT killed someone', it feeds into the myth of the system's agency & OpenAI's framing. The right framework to use: OpenAI is continuing to perpetuate an indefinite industrial disaster. The oil pipe is not at fault when it breaks. The company that built it is

They want to censure a California senator asking a question in a press conference then getting tackled and handcuffed. But this guy is cool
This is an egregiously shameful tweet from a US senator

I have a ton of issues with this op-ed but I love the idea of the duality of Waymo silicon valley vs Tesla silicon valley
I think what Friedman is gesturing at here is the fact that Waymo is pretty much the only big tech play that taps into the dying positive vibes around big tech: it's really smart people solving a really hard, transformative problem in a generally responsible way.

That's not a political platform.

Somehow I’m on an email list for Trump National Committee and it’s some of worst scammiest emails I’ve seen. They always lead to a page that tries to trick people into campaign donations

Imagine any pilot now tasked with flying into a war zone and wondering if any of your dumbass bosses texted your exact location to the wrong person
They’re not going to get out of this by playing semantics.

Sending detailed information about an upcoming military strike on unclassified channels (and even to the wrong guy) is wrong, reckless, and obviously a threat to American troops.

Don’t think everyone appreciates how devastating this is for Tesla. In the wake of a man getting disappeared for his politics, even people slightly considering checking out a Tesla *despite* the politics will now avoid it out of fear of what could happen. Another nail on the coffin
