My Granddad meant a lot to me and he always told wonderful stories. I love old books and this is my Granddad’s own copy of H.G Wells ‘The Invisible Man’ It is a great story as anyone knows who has read it. I will always treasure this, as it was something he enjoyed.

‘The Seeds of Doom’ is one of my favourite Fourth Doctor Stories. It’s beautiful, clever and in parts incredibly uncomfortable and disturbing. I feel it drew so much from The Quatermass Experiment. Tony Beckley was brilliant as Harrison Chase and so good at being evil. John Challis so brilliant too.

I loved Penelope Lively’s novel ‘Astercote’ (1970)

The Bells of Astercote ( 1980 )was one hour television drama adapted from Penelope Lively’s ghost story. It was shown on BBC TV on 23rd December 1980.

I would love to see this adaptation again.

I don’t think many people know of ‘Goober and the Ghost Chasers’ It was similar to Scooby Doo and Goober could make himself invisible, so all you could see was his hat. I liked him as much as I liked Scooby Doo when I was little.

Thanks to Paul Magrs for this lovely book that he wrote a few years ago. It’s about a young boy who wins a competition to meet David Bowie at a screening of Labyrinth. It’s magical and heartwarming and a book I love to read every Christmas. @paulmagrs.bsky.social

I love Ronald Howard as Sherlock Holmes. I wish he had recorded more than 39 episodes of the 1954 series, I really enjoyed them all.

The Wolves are Running...

Ep 1 of ‘The Box of Delights’ was first broadcast on 21st November 1984. It remains one of my traditional preparations for Christmas - one episode every week until Christmas Eve as originally shown.

I loved ‘The Ghosts of Oxford Street’ 1991 TV special. It was atmospheric and there were some great songs including ‘Magic’s Back’ by Alison Limerick. It included Tom Jones, Sinéad O'Connor, Rowetta, Shaun Ryder and documented the history of Oxford Street, loosely narrated by Malcolm McClaren.

I went to see the film ‘Christmas Karma’ at the cinema. It’s a musical version of A Christmas Carol. It was enjoyable and fun. It stars Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar as the Scrooge character and Hugh Bonnerville, Danny Dyer, Billy Porter. Boy George, Eva Longoria, Pixie Lott, and a great cast.

There are certain stories in the WHO world that hold a special place in my heart. This happens to be the first story I ever truly remember watching, and I loved the Agatha Christie-esque atmosphere. The image of The Rutan climbing the lighthouse steps, as well as Reuben's possessed look! Eeeeeek 👀
