Funny enough I had kind of the reverse happen. I used to do small digital fanzines for online fan gatherings (covid thing). Of course I have favorite characters and preferred pairings, but I tried to make something funny and wholesome that everyone could enjoy.

Weren't there a bunch of webnovels about revenge that were popular for a while? I guess a likeable/relatable protagonist doing bad things (against people who wronged them) can also be a kind of wish-fulfillment fantasy

Moccamori is portrayed like a brat who needs to learn some serious lessons, while Eirudy (WS3 protag) is portrayed more as a misunderstood good person who was just wronged by those bigoted humans (there is a bad ending if you're TOO evil though)

I know a lot of people have troubles accepting Moccamori (WithSpring 4) and Metallia (Witch and The Hundred Knight), but those two are over the top evil. Funny enough, the protagonist of WitchSpring 3 eats peoples souls and acts like an obsessive stalker but does not get the same criticism.

I have like, one pairing that I've decided 100% are going to be happy ever after (because I was frustrated with a certain franchise, haha) but the rest of my characters' relationships are a mess that I never seem to be able to work out

Yeah, it's difficult to think of a game where the protagonist is evil unless it's something that the player can choose themselves. I guess Ultima 8 is supposed to be like that if you're stuck in an evil society you have to adapt? But I haven't played that one yet so I'm not sure

I can also think of at least two games where the player is manipulated by an morally questionable mastermind all along and said mastermind wins in the end and suffers no real consequences

I know some games where you play as the mean rival from the first game, but usually that's a tsundere type rather than a full villain. There are also some games where if you apply real life logic to the economic system etc you're most likely a villain, but that's by pure accident

Now that I think about it, I guess the spirit summoning scenes also imply that a character can be dead on the physical plane but their consciousness is still around

Sorry, I forgot to explain how this relates to Zorana. When you find out about all the different possible fates of Elodie, and the bad ending mentioning "starting over", I was starting to think there would be some kind of multiple time lines going on and that multiple endings aren't just game logic

The second game gets more into "well you're just some guy pressing buttons, you don't really care, do you?"

Okay so, (spoilers obviously) Princess is engineered for her special powers, once she is on the throne they plan to use that power for their larger plan. But the twist is that the everything breaks the fourth wall and that you're not just playing a game, you're peeking into a different word

Yeah, I brought it up on the forum during the beta. For a while I was thinking that the plot twist/big secret would go in kind of the same direction, but I was wrong. Unless Zorana is planning to compress the Grib and their planet into energy at some point

Were you ever aware of Ciel nosurge while making the game? It's a VN-simulation game hybrid about an unprepared princess in an election to become the next empress of a SF world. Like Zorana, she has special powers and secret origin that are all part of a larger plan
