I experienced 2 things in Montreal that blew my mind. First was a multi day francophone celebration that closed about 12 blocks of downtown to cars.

The 2nd was a shopping/culture street that was as also no cars that stretched for 20 blocks. Imagine Commercial as just pedestrian. So alive.

I was in Montreal in late June. Agree… if Vancouver could just get its groove figured out, it could be so much more fun. The ingredients are there, but the swagger isn’t.

The problem I have with this version is that I can do this list:

Boa Constrictor
Merlin Falcon
Red Tailed Hawk
And more.

… all of which have been seen in my house. I accidentally found the escaped Boa by sitting down on a couch cushion. 8 year old trauma that makes me squirm still.

5. Merlin Falcon -seen lots of them, handled a couple. One divebombed at a hummingbird and ended up flying into our cabin by mistake. Had to chase it around the cabin with a towel. Wrapped it up and released it off the porch. Also took a chick I found on a path to the wildlife park.

4 Cougar. Cutting trails out in Wells Gray Park. Walking alone along the Murtle River with lots of water noise. Turned a corner and spooked a cougar sleeping on the bank. We were less than 15 feet. I could see he had black hair between his toes.

3. Lynx. Was a transporter(cat herder) for a Lynx relocation program Bc to Colorado- 25-30 years ago. Helped my dad move them, the team load them, then drove them 40 hours to southern Colorado.

sharks- Galápagos Islands. There’s a bay with a large crevice off to one side that tidal waters flush through. Maybe averages 15 feet wide.. 30 deep. The sharks sleep in it. You swim through this 100 yard passage with 4-6 foot sharks carpeting the bottom, resting, moving, bumping along.

1. Wolf pups- Murtle lake road, about a dozen milling around as I drove around a corner. Stopped the truck, sat on the window sill and howled at them. They all howled back and came trotting towards me. This lasted a few minutes until a car came along and spooked them off.

Stupidest time in history…so far. More stupider is much possible.
