Meat consumption and production already IS decreasing in many countries. Saying this is impossible isn't helping the problem.

I think it's better to focus on identiyfing and implementing the bets strategies for meat reduction

Look, I don't even use AI. But if you want to criticize AI, at least do so focused on your REAL arguments. But don't pretend it's extremely bad for the environment, because it isn't.

Facts matter when we have these debates, wouldn't you agree?

I strongly disagree that factory farms make a useful product. They create massive amounts of animal suffering, environmental destruction, and harms to humans, without creating anything that plant protein doesn't already provide. But that's not the main point here.

Factory farms kill lots of people every single year as well! Are you aware of any data showing that AI kills more people than the animal agriculture industry?

This is especially bad when professional writers and journalists do it!

I'm consistently surprised by how many people make up their minds around the issues before checking the facts. Then, if the facts are more complicated or nuanced (or even in opposition to their beliefs), they fail to update their opinions or reflect on them.

I didn't say food crops, I said factory farms.

Wow, I'm really surprised to see someone supposedly interested in climate data criticize fact-checking and data contextualization about climate issues.

If an industry uses more or less than other industries, that's important for people to know when thinking about how to tackle it. Context matters

It's far better than 1000x than a city, which is what the book was trying to claim!

What's important when thinking about environmental issues is placing these numbers in context of other energy/water demands. AI uses less water than gold courses, lawns, and FAR less than factory farming.

I hope the divide grows between higher welfare farms and factory farms! There are lots of groups out there who want better treatment for animals -- we're stronger if we work together.

I'm interested to see where this goes: Big Meat uses the ideas of "free-range" or "family farm" as rhetorical shields when it's convenient. but fights those ideas when they want better welfare reforms.
