Starting in 1977, the city of Plymouth, Michigan (where my father lived from 1978 until a few months before he died in 2014) held a chicken flying contest. It qualified as public animal cruelty, as they shoved chickens out of a chute to see how far they could go for the sake of entertainment.

What's old is new again... back in the '90s, there was a site that promised the same kind of "internet based on information, not sensationalism." Yea. Great idea. Ambitious. Trying to keep things educational. I wrote some articles on it. It died.
