Another first for me: I've built in scriptable cutscenes for *Pieces of the Kingdom*, so I can put in actual, you know, narrative.

Environmental storytelling is still the best, but sometimes you just want a couple characters to have a conversation!

💯 Those GIFs definitely needed a refresh, and swapping the first and third does make things more eye-catching. Based on your (truly excellent!) prompting here I've redone all three, and the whole page is greatly improved as a result.

Any suggestions for what to call these guys? "Egyptians" just seems...kind of bland.

Something new this Next Fest: a *lot* of player feedback for the Isles & Tiles demo (birdworks.io/l/isles-tile...) complaining about UI issues at tiny (1280x800) resolution. Turns out, that's the Steam Deck!

So now there's one on my desk, and boy do I have #indiedev / #gamedev thoughts.

In standard #chess, the winner always takes one of the loser's pieces, right? And that's how you grow your army over time as you play through a campaign?

(That's why they call it "Elo"; you say "Hello" to a new piece every time you win a match!)

Working on an overworld UI for my weir fantasy #chess / roguelite prototype – what do you think? I'm worried it's too...diegetic.

The idea is that each faction would get it's own "war room" where you move from battle to battle. This is my first stab at a dwarf one! #indiegames #indiedev #gamedev
