As 2025 comes to a close, I think my favorite lifer of the year was this gorgeous Red Phalarope that spent a few days hanging around a western PA lake this fall. This year was awful in so many ways, but I'm grateful for moments like these. I never imagined an opportunity like this.

I feel like this photo captures the essence of the Ovenbird - always creeping in the dark, giving you just a few moments to admire its beauty before disappearing again. This stunning specimen was seen just outside of Pittsburgh at Sewickley Heights Borough Park.
