It's constantly some type of diss on him either being weird, weak, or dumb. Meanwhile the number 2 is Garfield being mean to Jon. Mocking him or destroying his things. Overwhelmingly Garfield comics are about making fun of Jon way more than they are about Garf being relatable...

Strange thing about it though, Jim Davis (garf creator) said he made the decision after years of constant fan requests. It honestly seems unlikely he would have ever put them together without that influence. A lot of Garfield jokes are about Dunkin on Jon. Anyhow, a new panel tomorrow
