Look, coldwater animals take a long time to mull things over

We all remember the twitter eel post, surely,,,

The eel did indeed return to her tank to reign supreme over all the sticks and rocks she surveyed, I was just there as additional hands to fail at securing the eel so I did not hear about follow-up treatments, but I do recall that she recovered!

This is not a stupid question because I don't know either! This is why there was a vet involved. If I recall correctly it was along the underside near the bottom tail fin!

My only experience is with senescent lampreys and you can slap those fellas right onto your palm sucker-first and then carry them around with their built-in attachment point no problem (I suspect the senescent-and-therefore-no-longer-actively-feeding part is extremely important in this strategy)

we needed absolutely every available hand to try and hold onto her so you'll have to imagine the video, overlaid with yakety sax

The eel in question was an American eel so I believe this yes

We didn't have clamps or gloves because we never wanted to risk injury (even a scrape on the skin can result in an infection) so we had a silicone net to help us but she did instantly learn there was one (1) loop that was stretched enough for her to get through and then the net was basically useless

yes exactly, but thankfully ours was an american eel and not a moray eel because I would not hold one of these with my hands unless I was wearing full medieval armour

Somebody teased me for saying "slippery as an eel" last night like I'm an old-timey fisherman so I'm defending myself here

We had rolled her into the vet lab in a large cooler full of water on a dolly and held her up directly above the cooler. But she had decided she was not going back into the cooler, she was going to eel her way back to her tank across the floor on her own thanks
