Once you finish Genki 1 (about a month of daily work, can vary greatly based on progress) Start Genki 2, and also reading some easy manga (Yotsubato, whatever catches your fancy in shonen jump). Keep an english translation handy at first to give yourself bearing, but try and use it scarcely.

What worked for me is daily wanikani (use tofugu's free kana resources if you haven't got hiragana down yet, katakana can be done alongside wanikani). then at level 10, start with genki, making sure you handwrite all the vocab and writing out all the activities as you go.

It's simply the best one.
