#SundaypixOpening Arched gateways from my walks. Monken Hadley, Forty Hall, Highgate and Palmers Green
A brick arched gateway, one person wide. The arch extends above the wall it’s in, and casts a long shadow towards and to the right of the viewer. There is a plaque on either side of the iron gate, illegible from here. A rather grand brick arched gateway, large enough to accommodate a horse-drawn carriage of its day, stands in light shade. Its equally grand iron gates are open towards the viewer, revealing a calm, reflecting lake surface and, beyond that, tall winter trees, golden in full sunlight. The neo-gothic gatehouse to Holly Village. Over the arch of the closed gate, in extravagant gothic carved script, it reads ‘Holly Village erected by A. G. B. Coutts AD 1865. An angled shot of a brick arched park gateway of the 18th century in a wooded area. A fairly brutal, robust design, with brick pillars on either side which seem structurally unnecessary in a wall some 14 inches thick. The wall above the arch follows its curve, and is pitched at the top.
