I'm glad we live outside of Fairbanks where it's been sunny and clear, not in town where the ice fog from this cold snap has been insane. You can barely see 20 feet. Driving is scary. And the frozen pollution has an ungodly stench. We made a quick run to the store today. Wow. Welcome to Mordor.

Did a couple of weeks of grand jury duty in December. After hearing a dozen or so cases, I was forced to conclude that if we got rid of alcohol, guns, and men, grand juries would be almost entirely put out of work.

Back in '87, maybe '88, my sister and I caught Etta James in Seattle. Absolute blues power. We were blown away. To this day one of the best live performances I've ever seen. And years later, when she could no longer even stand up on stage, she was still more badass than any young punk.
