Oh my it was fantastic! Party of seven level 8 characters, it took one down to death saves, petrified 3 and one was unconscious due to eye ray spells for 4 rounds of combat, they managed to get a crit on a level 4 poison spray to take it out.

I try to use the 3-2-1 structure championed by @slyflourish.com makes it a lot easier but doesn’t stop my players just heading off wherever they want
