I think "At release date" is the missing detail there. My impression is that special edition books typically come out later, and often from different publishers; in contrast bands will have 5 different vinyl colors in different retail channels all released on day 1.

My favorite stupid gag: the mysterious cloaked figure at the end of the bar. Doesn't respond to questions, nothing on detect Good/Magic/whatever. Eventually a PC tries something physical: it's a broomstick with a cloak over it. All the locals laugh, publican puts another mark on the chalkboard.
