'Ikki' released for Famicom on this day in 1985.

Classically recognized as the first game to be called a "kusogē." This bad reputation though is perhaps a tad bit overblown, as the game is a relatively fine arcade conversion for the time (save for a truly awful camera).

'Rogue Warrior' released on this day in 2009.

An ode to vulgarity by way of Bethesda Softworks, who threw away a more ambitious build of the game which lingered too long in development. Their decision to trade it off on the cheap to Rebellion Developments proved disastrous.

'Bubsy 3D' released on this day in 1996.

Developer Eidetic's bold gamble on what the future of 3D platforming might look like. Unfortunately, they wound up wagering with the world's most maligned mascot, and some of the stiffest controls imaginable. Novel art direction, though!

'Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi' released on this day in 1997.

LucasArts' attempt to break into the lucrative 3D fighter genre, by means of leveraging their most popular IP. A lack of mechanical know-how and nuance, though, filled fans hearts with anger.

'Death Crimson 2: Meranito no Saidan' released on this day in 1999.

The Dreamcast sequel to the Saturn's "Emperor of Kusogē." Death Crimson 2 attempts to pad its rail shooting with third-person adventure game exploration. Ends on a still as-of-yet unresolved cliffhanger.

'Bubble Bobble Revolution' released on this day in 2005.

An underwhelming "New-Age" iteration in the classic arcade franchise. Its North American release was particularly botched, with major programming bugs preventing the ability to progress past the game's 30th stage.

'Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy' released on this day in 1993.

One of the Atari Jaguar's two games available at launch, serving as a decidedly unspectacular showcase for the console's capabilities. A lack of in-game music foretold a consistent trend in the system library.

'JFK Reloaded' released on this day in 2004.

Produced with the deliberate intention to spark outrage, and promoted by means of a competition with a promised cash prize to the player who could most accurately replicate the assassination of John F Kennedy in-game.

'GoldenEye: Rogue Agent' released on this day in 2004.

EA's attempt to cash in on the legacy of 'GoldenEye 007,' while revisiting none of the features that had defined that classic title. Squanders its premise of paying homage to the history of Bond.
November 22, 2025 at 9:16 PM
'Ashes Cricket 2013' released on this day in 2013.

Repeatedly delayed and ultimately released in an unfinished state. Less than a week after launch, the game was pulled from sale and retroactively cancelled by publisher 505 Games, complete with a written apology to consumers.
November 22, 2025 at 6:15 PM
'Ganso Saiyūki: Super Monkey Daibōken' released on this day in 1986.

The quest to adapt Journey to the West to the Famicom was fraught with hardships, as a first-time publisher and recently-pivoted developer embarked on their very own digital pilgrimage.
November 21, 2025 at 9:28 PM
'Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing' released on this day in 2003.

Widely held to be the least-functional racing game of all time: Lacking collision detection, functional opponents, a governor on backwards acceleration, and most everything else that comes standard with the genre.
November 20, 2025 at 11:03 PM
'The Master's Fighter' released on this day in 1997.

Ostensibly a conversion of Unico's arcade title 'Master's Fury' - featuring a roster of characters stolen and slightly modified from other fighting games - now with the bonus of broken sprite scaling. A true curio of the PS1.
November 20, 2025 at 9:28 PM
'Star Wars: Flight of the Falcon' released on this day in 2003.

Pocket Studios - a developer exclusively dealing in handheld games - attempted to bring 3D spacecraft combat to the GBA. The end result is technically impressive, but often impossible to actually visually parse.
November 18, 2025 at 11:58 PM
'Castlevania Judgment' released on this day in 2008.

A love letter to the history of the Castlevania franchise, written in the form of a 3D fighting game. Contentious character redesigns and overly-simplified combat clouds most folks' judgment of it.
November 18, 2025 at 11:28 PM
'Fugitive Hunter: War on Terror' released on this day in 2003.

A PS2 FPS [with occasional one-on-one fighting segments] in which you're tasked with apprehending terrorists, featuring none other than Osama Bin Laden as its final boss. A glitchy, insensitive, unpleasant mess.
November 18, 2025 at 10:47 PM
'Rise of the Robots' released on this day in 1994.

A massively hyped fighting game, marketed around its "very high level of [opponent] artificial intelligence" and as being "superior to Street Fighter II." The end result has gone down as one of gaming's greatest disappointments.
November 18, 2025 at 10:04 PM
'50 Cent: Bulletproof' released on this day in 2005.

Capitalizing on the success of 50 Cent's penchant for surviving being shot, Bulletproof follows G-Unit as they track down a hitman responsible for a failed assassination attempt on Fiddy. Dire gunplay puts a damper on the action.
November 17, 2025 at 9:01 PM
'Spy Games: Elevator Mission' released on this day in 2007.

Originally intended as a new installment in the Elevator Action franchise, until licensing issues resulted in a change of direction and slashing of budget. The end result is the Wii's weakest FPS.
November 16, 2025 at 10:54 PM
'Fight Club' released on this day in 2004.

Years late in capitalizing on a film license, woefully beneath the budget needed to recreate its iconic scenes, and generally inept in its presentation and execution of fisticuffs. It's got Fred Durst in it, though!
November 16, 2025 at 9:06 PM
'Kabuki Warriors' released on this day in 2001.

From the creators of Bushido Blade came another attempt to slickly stylize the fighting game genre. Unfortunately, ultra-simple controls gives way to a lack of variety, resulting in one of the original Xbox's lowest-rated games.
November 16, 2025 at 12:05 AM
'BMX XXX' released on this day in 2002.

Marketed as a particularly raunchy take on the extreme sports genre, BMX XXX's focus on sophomoric humor and topless bike riders evidently distracted the team from designing compelling level goals and solid bike-based gameplay.
November 15, 2025 at 10:59 PM
'Shadow the Hedgehog' released on this day in 2005.

With the popularity of Shadow post-SA2, it was decided that he should star in his own game, wielding guns and making moral choices. The end result has been ridiculed for its edgy dialogue and convoluted routing system.
November 15, 2025 at 9:19 PM
'Sonic the Hedgehog' released on this day in 2006.

Sonic's 15th birthday blow-out became no less than the unfortunate, undisputed low point of the franchise. Internal shake-ups and a rush to the finish line resulted in an altogether uneven and half-baked entry into the canon.
