In part because so much of its coal production is from underground mines, where emissions need to be accurately measured, in line with the EU Methane Regulation.

Today at #COP30, @unep.org released its #GlobalMethanePledge status report which finds that four years on, the coal sector ‘lags significantly behind’, despite proven solutions @ccacoalition.bsky.social

The report calls for a ‘step change in the coal sector’ 🚨

NEW DATA TOOL | Coal mines are a major source of methane. The big culprits could be vastly underreporting their CMM emission.

Dr Rebekah Horner has passed her PhD viva! 🌍

Her research on NOx & ozone used satellites & models to improve air quality & climate forecasts. Now at Ember, she tackles coal mine methane emissions.

Vertical profiles of global tropospheric nitrogen dioxide (NO2) obtained by cloud slicing the TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI)
Abstract. Routine observations of the vertical distribution of tropospheric nitrogen oxides (NOx ≡ NO + NO2) are severely lacking, despite the large influence of NOx on climate, air quality, and atmos...
