Our tortie’s name was Velcro when we rescued her from the shelter. We named her TikTik because she does not retract her claws when she walks & makes little clicking sounds. You can always hear her coming! She’s as wide as she is long. A total butterball!

I am in a book exchange, like a normal book club we meet once a month & keep it to 12 people or fewer. Instead of everyone reading the same book, we meet & discuss ALL the books we read over the month & pass the books around.

Clatskanie is along the Columbia River, Lewis & Clark’s old stomping grounds. Originally occupied by indigenous peoples, later settled by Nordic immigrants (specifically Norwegian, Finnish & Swedish).

I live near a town in Oregon called Clatskanie (klatz-ka-NYE). Some people who have lived here for generations pronounce it “klatz-ka-NINE”. It’s mystifying. There is no additional N in the word. That’s not how it’s pronounced. Where does this variation come from?
