Friday’s workshop was a joy to host. ☺️

We brought together researchers and activists to talk about LGBTQ+ criminalization, discrimination at work and in parenting, dating bias, and how the far right weaponizes LGBTQ issues.

Grateful to everyone involved and to VU's VICES for the support. 🏳️‍🌈

Ok, I must admit we didn’t expect this…

A caveat to this finding: while certain initial anti-trans actions may be popular in the US context, it's the issue voters have disapproved of Trump on the most so far.

Another way to look at the fall of the Greens.

Look at how they have been replaced by Linke as the party of the female youth:

Women vote less for the far-right in virtually all elections.

*BUT* the narrative that far-right growth is driven primarily by men—while women move in the opposite direction—doesn’t seem to hold true (once again, recall the US and UK).
February 23, 2025 at 8:40 PM
This stereotype isn't just held by far-right voters—it’s widespread, including among politically liberal citizens.

Also, there are no differences between LGBTQ+ and cisheterosexuals. All stereotype Muslims to the same degree.
February 14, 2025 at 12:28 PM
Instead of asking directly (which triggers social desirability bias), we used a double-list experiment—a method that reveals implicit beliefs by randomizing whether a sensitive item (Muslims as a threat) appears in one of two lists.

The results?
February 14, 2025 at 12:28 PM
A majority of citizens stereotype Muslims as inherently homophobic.

Our new paper (w/ @turnbulldugarte.com & @michaelhunklinger.bsky.social) shows this across four countries 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇩🇪🇳🇱, published in @bjpols.bsky.social.

Anti-racist protests reduced AfD vote shares in both the 2021 German Election and the 2024 European Election.

While the Greens gained in 2021, *they didn’t in 2024*—likely due to their shift towards anti-immigration policies in government.

Important implications for progressive parties. More: 👇

"Boys who report feeling seen as “very feminine” are 3.5 times more likely to be bullied than their “very masculine” peers. By contrast, girls’ rates are roughly constant across the gender expression spectrum."

Happy about what is (conditionally) coming with my dear friend @blancobosco.bsky.social. 🥰

In this new paper for @poqjournal.bsky.social we show that people aren't that 'sexually modern' in sexually modern contexts as many may think.

Stay tuned for the full story!

Excited to present my ongoing research agenda on selective (il)liberalism this Wednesday at 1 PM, hosted by @bupolisci.bsky.social. The talk features collaborations with @turnbulldugarte.bsky.social, @laiabalcells.bsky.social & Ethan vanderWilden.
