I use large (the size used to mail LPs) cardboard for my to-do lists, writing on it in sharpie. I use cardboard for thoughts I want to turn into objects that populate my desk space, so that I don't lose track of them. Sometimes they end up as paper scraps on a cork board (big cork board fan).

This seems entirely right to me, having grown up in the "East Coast Professors" ecosystem - which has very few connections to the evangelical ecosystem, or the military ecosystem (interesting and weird and sometimes scary things happen at those connection points).
