I feel like the American exceptionalizing of the self plays a role too. I'm sure this happens to Christian churches in other places, but it sure feels like it's the largest "sect" of Christianity in america right now

It is, but I normally I don't like the thought of the record being there, except once a year when I need it.

I think being a professional musician is a lot like being a pastor. People think you do two hours of work, but they don't understand how much practice/prep goes into those two hours
