Roger Caillois has a whole category for this kind of play in his theory of games, one of the four categories: ilinx. No winners or losers, no competition, just a relation to physicality, to use of body, that has a form of pleasure or thrill. Rolling down a hill is a primary example he uses.

As a predictable result, the Peoples' Action Party made much of the failure of the Labor Front to abolish the repressive powers inherited from colonial authorities.

Also, the Peoples' Action Party was led by Lee Kuan Yew.

The less moderate part of the electoral Left, the Peoples’ Action Party, had been formed a few months prior to the election with significant participation of people who had been detained under such colonial repression, and of militant trade unions which were also subject to stifling restrictions.

The more moderate Labor Front ran on some social democratic reforms, institutionalising post-colonial independence, and especially on the promise to abolish the repressive Emergency Regulations left over from the colonial period.

And upon forming a new government immediately betrayed that promise.

Back then I think they'd have avoided calling someone a 'real estate identity' if the person involved was literally at the races at the time, because of those implications...
