Yoram Hazony is Surprised by Blatant Antisemitism in the MAGA Coalition — But Antisemitism is Second Nature for Nationalists

Last week Yoram Hazony, far-right Israeli theorist & leader of National Conservatism, sat down with NYT columnist Ross Douthat to explain why he was surprised there's now an antisemitism crisis in the MAGA movement. Nobody else was surprised. My latest: bit.ly/HazonyAntisemitism

Had a great big picture conversation last week with Rachel Nelson at @newlinesinst.bsky.social on antisemitism in the MAGA movement, what a principled anti-Zionism looks like, changing views on Israel/Palestine in the American Jewish community and more. Give it a listen! bit.ly/49IwVnr

Male isolation isn’t the root cause of fascism- plenty of lonely men don’t become fascists- but it’s not irrelevant

tfw out-of-touch Christian Zionist elders discover for the first time white nationalist memes that have been around forever, and then immediately amplify them to warn their followers & inadvertently redpill a bunch of boomers

My thoughts on Israeli nationalist Yoram Hazony’s interview yesterday with NYT columnist Ross Douthat, where Hazony struggled & failed to convince us that rising MAGA antisemitism is a bug, not a feature of the movement he still (for now) calls home

Oh my god
Q: Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?

MAMDANI: I've spoken about--

TRUMP: That's okay. You can just say yes. I don't mind.

Written in March of this year, @fredclarkson.bsky.social and @benlorber8.bsky.social trace how a fast-growing Christian Right movement is becoming a major driver of U.S. and global support for Israel. Examine its rising influence, political reach, and international networks.
The New Face of Christian Zionism
A rapidly growing Christian Right movement has become a driving force behind unqualified U.S.—and global—support for Israel.

Every time Nick Fuentes is in the news, I see reporters and observers making the same two errors:

1. Treating something he says on one show, in one clip, as his master plan. He streams for 2 hours a night. While there are some constants, his analysis & strategy shifts over time/

And with that the debate is settled, Nick Fuentes is officially in the MAGA tent

They're in the nation's capital, but a small conference room in a hotel is the best the ex-Heritage antisemitism task force could do. The 'exit' sign in the background is telling-- they're standing up, alright; and, it seems, being shown the door

Today the National Task Force to Combat Antisemitism is having a conference in DC about antisemitism on the Right. NTFCA recently left the Heritage Foundation, where they led Project Esther.

Here's task force leader Mario Bramnick calling on Christians to convert Jews

On his show last week Nick Fuentes told followers to graffiti ‘Nick Fuentes Was Right About Israel’ all around the country. So far exactly one instance has been reported. I think calling this guy Charlie Kirk’s successor, as Washington Post & other headlines have, is premature

A hasbara group called Honest Reporting got mad that I was honest about Israel on last week's @cbcnews.ca Front Burner podcast about MAGA white nationalist Nick Fuentes. Sorry! And apparently, even when the topic is a neo-Nazi I should focus on condemning the Left?!

In the past when he’s refused to disavow the radical Right- say, David Duke during his first presidential campaign, or calling Unite the Right ‘very fine people’- Trump was resisting pressure from liberals. This is the first time he’s done it to litigate an intra-MAGA dispute
I’m sure plenty of Zionists hoped Trump would go the Mark Levin route, but they were fooling themselves. This is exactly how Trump has always played footsie with the radical Right since David Duke in 2016– claim not to know, avoid disavowing etc. Another win for the groypers

In which the Vice President lashes out at a critic by subtly underlining her Jewishness, marking her as external to the community of the good.

The critic was pointing out that Tucker Carlson's son is on his staff; in response, he seamlessly adopts Carlson's antisemitic tactics

"MAGA is dead"-- founder & chairman of the College Republicans of America, a national group founded only a few years ago to challenge the GOP campus establishment & which already claims over 280 chapters nationwide. In 2023 I showed many of its early leaders were groypers -->

It seems a few Leftists are now discovering for the first time that the radical Right is also anti-establishment, and so if you squint at a few of its positions, from a tiny angle, they can kinda sound like our own. Don't get too excited! Learn about the 'three-way fight'

“But the ruling class is not all-powerful. They can be defeated. They don’t always have an ironclad, air-tight master plan; sometimes they don’t have their shit together. They disagree amongst themselves all the time, and we can exploit those wedges in their coalitions.”
For @convergencemag.com I wrote a two-part guide for progressives on how to understand antisemitism and its weaponization, and how to fight it with solidarity

Part 1 breaks down how antisemitism is used as a tool by the 1% and a fuel for White Christian supremacy -- yesterday and today
What Antisemitism Is, What It Isn’t, and Why It Matters: Part 1
Antisemitism has always been deeply interwoven with other types of social domination. It is both a form of bigotry and scapegoating against Jews, and a conspiracy theory that today is stitched into…

Alot of the grievance fueling groyper anti-Zionism, as well as some left-adjacent ‘Jewish supremacy’ discourse, is a rejection of the moral elevation of Jewish suffering by the post-WW2 Christian West. And I’m sympathetic to that rejection, though not to the grievance/
