2/ you can leverage the behavior needed from a Factory responsible for creating the right object.

At some place inside this software design choice, there is a "if" or a "switch" instruction to handle the decision logic.

The question :
Will your users need to switch from one context to another ?

1/ you can set the right interface implementation by configuration.

Not so flexible, especially for users, but as a programmer you can distribute a software working well for a specific use case.

It could be useful sometimes, I admit.

And I prefer the one letter approach.

Why ? Because it is clearly a generic placeholder and not a java interface.

Libre Office and Latex are pretty good enough alternatives for a lot of professional people whom can't bear Microsoft softwares anymore. I personaly have switched to Linux since 2003.
