50 years is a long time, and a lot can happen between now and then. In the meantime, EVs will almost certainly dominate sales.

Fuel cells have major drawbacks, including very high energy losses in the various conversion processes. It's highly unlikely they will ever catch on for cars.

The cars that sell 1000s per year are a better bet than the ones that sell in tens of millions, and which are getting better all the time? That ship has sailed long ago.

Exactly. The country would very clearly be worse if you kicked out all immigrants, and stopping all small-boat migration would barely move the dial on anything - other than the screaming. But they’d soon find something else to scream about.

For a sense of scale, 15,000 MW of solar panels (latest 12-mth total) should generate at least 25 TWh annually in Africa. Africa’s total electricity consumption is around 1,000 TWh, so it’s ~2.5% of that being added each year. And the amount being added is rising fast.

If you are on probation for 20 years, it ensures you put your commitment to this country on hold. Keep your head down, concentrate on your private life, on not putting a foot wrong, but not giving back either. 20 years of identifying yourself as alien, insecure.

Fair point. And there was the bridge collapse the other day. In any case, I think what China does isn't a very good indication of what other countries will or won't manage.

China is finishing a first commercial project, but it’s far smaller than the Rolls Royce design (125 MW vs 470 MW), so more genuinely “small” and perhaps modular.

And the UK is more like Argentina than China for project timelines.

The ACP100 modular reactor, China's first small modular reactor, marks a turning point for nuclear power in China.

It will reduce the effort refugees make to integrate, something that the racists in Labour and elsewhere claim to worry about. As asylum experts point out, grasp of local policies is often not great so it probably won't reduce the flow of asylum seekers, which is presumably the hope.

This is the twisted logical conclusion of conflating small boats/asylum seekers with illegal immigration.

If asylum seekers are by definition illegal immigrants, a successful asylum seeker is not a refugee, but an ex-illegal immigrant who gamed the system.
