As an Australian overseas it's not often that you see a headline about Australia that makes you proud. This is an exception.

This in itself is a a great example of enshittification
Australia’s oldest dictionary of Australian English has chosen “enshittification” – a slang term referring to the deterioration of products and services online – as the word of 2024.
Australia’s Macquarie Dictionary names ‘enshittification’ word of the year
Australia’s Macquarie Dictionary says term captures widespread sense that things are getting worse.

This is absolutely wild
Americans believe 21% of the population is transgender, slightly higher than the proportion of millionaires

Exactly. Not everything needs "disruption"

ps this start-up makes me sad
One of the biggest problems with Tech in the last 30 years is the obsession with disrupting things that are actually perfectly good for society they way they are. It's nothing more than greed masked as innovation.

Is WhatsApp becoming a victim of its own success? WhatsApp groups are the default for so many forms of communication now that it's overwhelming. I think I'm in about 20 active groups? Not sure if anyone feels the same way

After novel recommendations if anyone has anything they’ve read recently that they loved? Bonus points if it’s historical fiction

Observation on the Volvo campaign and Jaguar too:
the life stage they're pitching it too (mid / late 30s, starting a family) is so expensive. Buying a family home w mortgage plus childcare fees etc. We'd all love a new Volvo or Jag but there are other v pricey things that have to take priority

I used to get regular Chase Maserati emails in America too. And literally no other brand.
You know I cannot afford this car
Yet you sell me to the brand anyway
Sigh

I feel like Barbour's been trying to push against its conservative "Farage wearing" reputation eg Noah collabs etc
Barbour has always been vaguely conservative coded, especially in Western Europe. But this doesn't mean you can't wear it if you don't share those political views. It's all about knowing the different levels of Barbour. 🧵

To be clear, we do have plans for scaling, we just kinda expected more than a couple days notice before getting blasted with a million new users a day.
The team is rapidly deploying fixes and new software to adapt. More servers in the mail.

I see old (and newer) Jaguars driving around on country roads outside of St Albans all the time. They're just so beautiful and it makes me want one all the time. A Jag on an English country road. Nothing looks better.

More thoughts:
• With Threads you get more of a Meta audience particularly IG so more of the same audience on a different platform
• Threads has the same big tech ick as Twitter albeit less pronounced
• Pining for the original Twitter is strong and ppl feel like they're getting it here
Despite a massive head start, BlueSky has now overtaken Threads in the US 👇
